Successes Abound in Promoting Water as a First Option for Hydration
This past September, the #waterfirstforthirst project was chosen to be presented as an Innovation Session at Cleveland’s 7th Annual Sustainability Summit.
Innovation sessions engage and inspire summit attendees to work toward solutions to help Cleveland thrive and become more resilient, efficient, and sustainable. Topics align with Sustainable Cleveland’s Celebration Years and Climate Action Plan.
As a result of our session, students from MC2 Stem High School participated and identified various ways to encourage residents and students to drink more water including:
The #pitcheryourselfhealthier Selfie Campaign

Through MC2 Stem’s partnership with Dee Jay Doc Harrill, students will be creating a song that promotes drinking water.
The STEM Water Alliance created a team of students who will be active proponents of expanding water access in their schools.
Following the Sustainability Summit...
The Healthy Eating Committee - as well as Dwellworks, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and University Hospitals - sponsored the "Why I Drink Water Competition." The purpose of the competition was to create a friendly rivalry between two CMSD schools (Case Elementary and Luis Munoz Marin) to encourage students to tell the community why THEY choose to drink water... using art.
University Hospitals featured the winning artwork in their Humphrey Gallery during the month of October. They hosted a recognition ceremony on October 22nd from 5-7pm as part celebrating the national Food Day event.
